To hire a taxi between Manchester and Haworth, where I planned to walk for a day or two, then travel onto Bradford, from where I would economise on the ever reliable and super cheap National Express Bus Service to London, was only ten pounds more than to hire a car.
I needed reliable transport within twelve hours of landing in England, after 26 hours straight, travelling from Australia. Realistically, to drive on strange roads in a foreign country, was downright foolhardy, if not dangerous.
Later I learned that car hire companies use this as an escape clause for accident claims, if you have been on a long haul flight within 24 hours of driving their vehicle!
How glad I was when I discovered Airport Transfers Yorkshire on the internet!
Trevor Hurdus-Warren runs Airport Transfers Yorkshire and I was lucky enough to join his often famous clientelle, including BBC employees and Lady Gaga!
Trevor himself, picked me up from my accomodation in Manchester in my fantasy car, a wonderful retro, very British Jag.
Our journey to Haworth included scenic photo stops and Trevor's commentary about the history of the region, worth way more than the extra price beyond the hire car!
It was a wonderful introduction to the friendly and obliging people of Yorkshire
For my onward journey from Howarth to Bradford, Trevor had completed all his other jobs for the day, and our trip involved taking a route via the historic mill town of Saltaire, where we lunched on the river, before the final leg of the journey.
I can highly recommend the experience of being driven by a genuine local, with a passion for both his job and the place he lives in, instead of simply hiring a car!
The experience made me feel like a genuine VIP, rather than just an ordinary traveller and was definately money well spent!
The following photos document some of the visual feast of the experience!
