All CRTs working directly for schools will have an increased daily rate of pay, from $283.90 to $293.30 (3%).
We have the Australian Education Union to thank for this extra money in our pockets, which could amount to an extra $50 per week if we work every day over the course of a week. Without them, the Department of Education would probably have ignored our existence and saved itself many thousands of dollars in their limited and already overstretched budget!
If you are disappointed our pay increase is only a mere near $10 a day, still leaving us $90 behind the daily pay for a Tasmanian CRT, then perhaps you should ask yourself if you are a member of your union?
Similarly if you are not a member of the union, are you prepared to forego the extra money in your pocket, that those of us who are, effectively gained on behalf of CRTs via our union membership?
If you are a union member, then you should be proud that your membership counted in helping the AEU negotiate our pay increase.
The better unionised CRTs are, the more clout, by force of CRT numbers they represent, both the AEU and VEIU have to negotiate real improvments in our pay and conditions with the Department of Education and Independant Schools Sector.
In times of tight education budgets, it's those who are the least visible and voiceless, who are most likely to be overlooked, or worse, deliberately ignored.
As a CRT, you really cannot afford to be without the support of your union. It is our sole voice through which to bargain for any improvements in our pay and conditions of work!
