It is vital to book your accomodation ahead. Moreover, if you have your heart set on visiting the Baboli Museum or the catacoombs at the Colloseum, make sure you book these when you book your accomodation, lest, like us you discover it is necessary to book these in advance and miss out as a result.
We did book ahead through the Vatican website for our five hour art tour and visit to the Sistine Chapel and Brumante staircase.
I loved Rome. It's crazy and a bit chaotic, but it also reveals something new around each corner. It is a city worth savouring and excellent food is yet another of its great features!
Arriving in the early afternoon, we checked into our accomodation and walked around the corner to explore the Spanish Steps, another grand plaza and a palace. We stopped at a cafe with a great view to enjoy a spritz or two and some lunch. We returned to our hotel having explored the local shops and found a delightful little eatery, La Scala, just around the corner from the hotel, for an excellent meal.
Treasures of the Vatican Tour. (5 hours of art, the Brumante staircase, Sistine Chapel and St Peters).
We headed out early catching the metro to the Colloseum, picked up an excellent tour outside, avoiding the long queues. The tour included the adjacent Hippodrome, with flexible start times, allowing as much time to independantly explore the Colloseum after the formal tour as we needed. Later, we wandered along the extensive archeological sites and explored gardens and mansions to add some variation.
The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and doing as the Roman's do, enjoying the great outdoors and shops!
